Hi!
When in doubt, begin with a hello, right? Consider this a ‘Greetings and Salutations’ then, with all of the welcomes and glad-to-have-you exultations wrapped up in a smile, accompanied by a cup of your favorite morning pick-me-up.
If you’re here, then one of four things have happened:
- You saw me post about the blog and site on social media, and you decided to check things out for yourself,
- You listened to a book or short story I’ve narrated, and you decided to visit the website and blog,
- You decided to research audiobook narrators, and this website and blog came up in your results, or
- You stumbled onto the site through the forces of kismet and good fortune, so here we are!
Whatever the reason for your arrival, thank you for reading this far and hitting that critical thirty-second mark for website engagement. This blog isn’t about site optimization or obsessive over-marketing. Instead, it’s part personal accountability and part authorial aspirations. There are plenty of audiobook narrators who work out of home studio spaces, as well as many parents who are self-employed and use daily strategies to balance family and home office adventures. There are lots of narrators who aspire to live healthier lifestyles, and every audiobook narrator has to navigate the business challenges that come with this wonderful profession. Add to that a recovering university academic with a decade of experience in podcasting fiction, and I promise that this blog is going to be interesting, in the best of ways. Maybe even educational, because the former university instructor side can’t help but throw in a lesson or two.
So, if you were the sort to want a diagram of this crazy intersection of topics, it would look something like this:
#homestudiolife – working from a home recording studio
#momboss – my parent/professional duality
#narratorbiz – the out-of-studio work required to be a narrator
#podcast – unicorns… just kidding, podcast episodes, short bites that reflect the posts here
#healthynarrator – physical and mental health for narrators
And the intersection of those five? Well, that’s me, Veronica, or just V (Vee, or Vie if you’re going for a fun French vibe).
Those aren’t the only things that will show up in the blog. When I finish a new audiobook or post podcast episodes for The Secret World Chronicle podcast novel series (written by Mercedes Lackey, Cody Martin, Dennis Lee, and me, narrated by me) those will get announcements in the blog. Other fun things might show up as the seasons change and ideas come to light. But really, this blog will focus on the life and challenges for one particular audiobook narrator making it happen while juggling all of the crazy fun that self-employment, parenting, and podcasting have to offer.
Think there’s something that I should be writing about? Have questions about an aspect of narrator life that hasn’t been addressed? Drop me an email or use the contact form on the site, and I’ll get back to you.
And to all those folks who’ve been waiting for me to finally take the leap and make this blog happen… yes, you were right, and I’m thankful for your patient and continuous encouragement. You’re awesome.
